Howrah administration has resumed excavation of a 16-katha pond in the Chakpada Kalitala area of Liluah that was being illegally filled. The action was taken following complaints from local residents. Officials from the Bali-Jagacha block, including the Block Land and Revenue Officer (BLRO) and Assistant Director of the Land Reforms Department Sudip Banerjee, along with Howrah City Police, visited the site and stopped the construction work.
The administration has initiated investigations into several other ponds in the Liluah police jurisdiction that have been illegally filled. Deputy Commissioner (DC) North Bishwapal Sarkar has personally conducted inspections on the ground to assess the situation. The BLRO has issued a warning stating, “If anywhere a pond is attempted to be filled, direct legal action will be taken.”
The ongoing government intervention aims to restore the natural water bodies in the area. This excavation work is part of efforts to recover water retention capacity in Liluah’s soil. The administration is monitoring the situation closely to prevent further illegal encroachments and ensure compliance with land and water body protection laws.
